Flexible and personal – why you should book your trip with Africana Travel
Once I had the pleasure of hearing a satisfied customer answer the question "Why should you travel with Africana Travel? '. She said, quote; because it is flexible and personal, end quote. With a short reply/sentence she summed up everything we strive to be. Personal in our contact/relationship with our client. Although we have package trips we are flexible in both adding and subtracting days on your trip and you can always choose your own dates. I summarized some more reasons why I think you should travel with Africana Travel below. We look forward to welcoming you on a trip to Africa! /David Lenefors, MD Africana Travel
Responsible for our operations in Tanzania is Arnold Moshi who has worked with arranging trips in East Africa since 1999. Arnold is also a certified and experienced guide on Kilimanjaro, Mt Kenya and Mt Meru. Our partners in Tanzania is ‘Karibu Africa Safaris’ and ‘Moivaro Lodges and Tented Camp’. In Kenya we work with ‘Nature Expeditions Africa’, in Botswana ‘Okavango Expeditions’ and in Uganda and Rwanda ‘Churchill Safaris’. We also cooperate with many hotels in all above countries and we may in some special arrangements have other partners than those mentioned above.
One thing that all of our partners in Africa have in common is that they are recognized and established businesses, keeping a high quality while providing the personal service that is a characteristic of all trips by Africana Travel.
In terms of local knowledge and expertize about Tanzania and East Africa we feel fairly confident that we are on top of the crowd. Only one person in the company is not East African born and raised, that is David Lenefors. David however is a swede who have traveled in Tanzania extensively over the past 15 years, lived there and operated Africana Travel in Tanzania since 2007. Trust us to know the answer to your questions about safaris in East Africa.
Our safari trips are carefully planned to ensure you'll get as much out of them as possible. We do not want you to spend your time with unnecessary transportation back and forth along the same road, we want you to spend maximum time in safari parks.
Some of our competitors have safari trips where you during a week run up to 600 miles in additional unnecessary transportation distances. 600 miles of transportation that you can avoid by booking with us.
We want you to have enough time to explore each unique safari area you visit on your safari trip in Tanzania. We have therefore chosen not to cram too much in our travels. It is better to emphasize one or two things on a plan to ensure that you have enought time for it. No point to rush through your safari and still not have enough time to experience the amazing places you visit.
A large portion of our passengers traveling to Tanzania during the European winter. During this period the amazing migration is in southeastern Serengeti in the area called Ndutu. Since a safari in Tanzania during the winter without seeing migration is like a tour of China without the Great Wall we off course maka a stop in Ndutu. We see it as a given and would not recommend to you a safari in Tanzania during the winter without a visit to Ndutu.
We have good jeeps equipped for safaris and serviced after each safari. All jeeps have seat belts. Everyone who travels with us on safari are insured with the Flying Doctors which includes flights to hospital in Nairobi by serious illness or injury. All guides are trained in first aid. Your safety is important to us.
Also on Kilimanjaro climbs every traveler is insured with the Flying Doctors.
We have complete programs and trips which are popular but of course we can tailor a trip to suit your preferences. We have the knowledge necessary to work together with you sew your own dream trip to Tanzania.
Experience Zanzibar as the Indian Ocean spice island should be experienced! We have a number of hotels on Zanzibar from south to north in different price ranges and standards, from mid-range hotels to luxury. All our hotels are small, intimate boutique hotel directly on the beach. No charter hotel and no big resorts.
We believe that Zanzibar is experienced at its best if you live in a small hotel where you can get close to the surrounding village and get a more personal service. We have therefore chosen our hotels carefully. We only work with hotels, no matter what price range you choose, will really enhance your experience. This is how we think it should be on Zanzibar. Welcome to our Zanzibar!
A lot of companies claim to be experts in East Africa. We are an East African company. We are based in Arusha. All but one person employed by Africana Travel works out of our office in Arusha. Cut the middle man and book directly with us!
This is important to us; poverty is not a tourist attraction. If you want to see "the real Africa" and your idea of doing this is to intrude on poor peoples personal space and shove a camera in their face, then you need to travel with someone else.
We have no visits to schools or orphanages in our standard travel plans. We believe that this type of tourism is handled poorly in Tanzania and do in most cases more harm than good. If you want to visit a school or an orphanage in Tanzania, you should make sure that it is the school or orphanage who have opted to receive tourists and that they do it on scheduled times and that it is organized in a way so that children are not disturbed by it. I do not think that we in Britain would appreciate if schools, kindergartens and the like were treated as tourist attractions. We think we should show the same respect back.
We have some schools and orphanages that we work with that we on request can arrange visits. If you are interested in this, talk with us before your journey and we will arrange it.
For us it is important that everybody that works for us or with us works under fair conditions. We know that our guides are well paid and have fair working conditions. We know that everyone who is on a Kilimanjaro climb has the right equipment, eat good food and sleep in good tents. We never let a porter carry too much in order to save money. We take great efforts to makle sure that everybody involved in a safari or expedition arranged by us is treated and paid fairly. We see this as our social responsibility.
